i might disagree: an SSD drive is indeed faster than a single SATA drive. However, if you put two SATA drives together with software raid0 (striped), then the combined drive beats the SSD. (but Kirk might have a more up-to-date experience). on our machines we typically link 4 SATA drives as raid 0 (striped but not mirrored) and have an additional SATA drive for backup.

We do this on some of our new iMacs and the improvement is very noticeable compared to just SATA drives.
